Add a layout component and two column components within it, then add the following class within the Layout component's Options -> Additional classes field homepage-content-layout.

For the default look (image on right), add a WYSIWYG component to your first Column component, then add your text content.
To your second Column component add a WYSIWYG but only include the image you want to use, I recommend an image with the following dimensions width 960px by height 640px.

If you want the image on the left move the Column component with the image to the first position and add the img-left class to the Layout component Additional classes field so it reads homepage-content-layout img-left

You can also add a background colour to the content section, using the background colour option available within a Layout components options.

If your selected colour isn't working well with the default text colour, you can change the colour by adding either "text-colour-black" or "text-colour-white" class within the Layout component's Additional classes field under Options.
